Multiple Teams · 2019 SEMI-FINAL GAME at HOME against WEST MEMPHIS 11/29 – Broadcast Options

It’s time for Benton Panther playoff football! The Benton Panthers, champions of the 6A West play host to the West Memphis Blue Devils, the second seed from the 6A East, in a state semifinal matchup.  The winner advances to next Saturday evening’s 6A State Championship game at War Memorial Stadium to face the winner of the Greenwood (10-1) at Searcy (10-1) semifinal game.

The Panthers (8-3) earned their way into the semifinals thanks to a stellar defensive effort last Friday in an 18-7 win over Jonesboro.  The Panther defense allowed just 36 yards rushing on 30 carries to the Golden Hurricane and forced four turnovers and a blocked punt for a safety.

West Memphis (7-4) defeated Lake Hamilton 33-28 last Friday to earn their spot in the 6A Final Four.

Both teams come in hot, hitting their stride at the right time.  After going winless against a stiff non-conference slate, the Panthers have ripped off eight straight wins.  Meanwhile, West Memphis has righted their ship after a 2-4 start to win five consecutive games.

Tonight’s game will mark the third consecutive year these two teams have played in state playoff action, the previous two both at Hamilton-Schultz Field in West Memphis.  In 2017, the Blue Devils broke a 21-21 tie in the fourth quarter with 18 unanswered points for a 39-21 win.  Last year, the Panthers struck with back-to-back successful onside kicks to start the second half to turn a 3-3 halftime tie into a 30-17 victory.

This year, the team’s will battle at the Benton Sports Complex where the Panthers are a perfect 7-0 in postseason play since its opening in 2013.
